Nag Bhasma

Nag Bhasma (also known as Naga Bhasma) is a potent Ayurvedic “herbo-mineral” preparation made from purified and calcined Lead. Unlike the herbal capsules we discussed (like Ashwagandha or Giloy), this is a specialized metallic ash (Bhasma) used for chronic and complex conditions.

Because it contains processed lead, it is considered a high-potency medicine and must only be taken under the strict supervision of an Ayurvedic doctor.

• Common Quantity: Usually sold in small 5g or 10g powder packs, or in 60-capsule/tablet bottles (where each capsule contains a very small, precise dose).

• Main Ingredient: Shuddha Naga (Purified and incinerated Lead).

• Processing: It undergoes an intensive purification process called Shodhana and Marana, where it is heated with herbs like Nirgundi, Turmeric, and Neem to remove toxicity and convert the metal into nano-particles that the body can absorb safely.

Nag Bhasma is traditionally used for its “deep-penetrating” action on the tissues (Dhatus):

• Diabetes (Prameha): It is highly regarded for managing blood sugar levels and preventing the long-term complications of diabetes, such as frequent urination and weakness.

• Urinary Disorders: Effective for urinary incontinence, painful urination, and chronic infections of the urinary tract.

• Reproductive Health: Used to treat “sexual weakness,” impotence, and to improve sperm quality. In women, it is often prescribed for leucorrhea (white discharge).

• Respiratory Issues: Helps in managing chronic bronchitis, asthma, and a persistent “whooping” cough.
